Sleep

How important is sleep? Well just as important as breathing. A lack of sleep can affect your mood, your recovery, your ability to process things, even how you eat. When you don’t get enough sleep it can be equated to being slightly impaired. Getting restful sleep is crucial for your brains health and your own wellness.


I didn’t sleep last night. It was so hot and there were so many thoughts racing in my head. I sat up unable to sleep and I felt so frustrated. My brain was obsessing like OCD over and over these same thoughts. Even when I was like just drop it already it couldn’t. Have you ever been yelled at and the person keeps repeating the same thing and all you can do is just sit there and take it? Well that was my brain last night. And because I didn’t get sleep last night all day I was exhausted. I felt beyond tired and even took a nap at one point. When I am this tired I am sad and depressed. Usually because my brain waves are working on low power mode.


Why is sleep so important for us? Because it allows downtime for your brain to recharge. You need it or else you could become moody, irritable, and many other emotions. I know this entry is not a great one, and it will be short. I could elaborate more on this topic had I slept better. Maybe there will be a sleep part 2. Anyways what are some ways you can get more sleep and better quality?


Go to bed the same time everyday. That will make sure your circadian rhythms always help you sleep the at the right time.


Try to remove any screens before you sleep. I have been falling asleep with a tv on. Maybe that is why I had a hard time last night. It usually is background noise on top of my fans and white noise.


If you need to take melatonin. If you do take it at the same time everyday. Melatonin works when you take it the same time to match your circadian rhythms. It will allow your body to be naturally inclined to start the sleep cycle.


Make sure you use the same nightly routine, that will tell your brain you are preparing for sleep.


Stop caffeine intake before noon. Caffeine stays in your system for a long time, 24 hours I believe. So limit it, especially if you are having a hard time sleeping.


These are just a few ideas. Try reading to engage your mind to tire it out. Stay away from social media, seeing highlight reels could trigger your mind to start doing a variety of things. I hope some of these things help! Happy sleeping and sweet dreams fellow travelers!
