The Science of Well-Being

So I first heard about this class back in the midst of quarantine when my depression was at it’s worst ever. The class is taught by Laurie Santos, a professor at Yale. I was so intrigued by this class that I signed up immediately. I started to watch the first weeks worth of videos and was ready to start but then depression overload. I couldn’t get up and motivated and thus never followed through with the class.

It wasn’t until a few months later while taking classes at a local community college I re-discovered Laurie because one of my teachers. The class I am currently taking is the pursuit of happiness, and it’s an English 101 class. Now let me tell you this class is the highlight of my week. I am not enjoying the other classes but this one has been thought provoking, challenging, and lights me up so unbelievably much. During one of the lessons one of the assignments was to listen to Laurie’s podcast, The Happiness Lab. As I listened it brought so much thought provoking questions to my day, and a new perspective I started to dive into all of her podcasts. Then today I realized that The Happiness Lab was the same professor that I wanted to take the class from back in quarantine. As soon as I made the connection I signed back up for the class and started to begin my journey into the science of wellbeing.

So this will be my new challenge, 10 weeks of this class. I failed my 5 for 75 challenge, I didn’t want to announce this because I let myself down but I have to say it loud and proud. Because when we fail and acknowledge it we improve from it. I am acknowledging it so that I can push myself to stay committed to the next challenge.

What is The Science of Wellbeing course? The course engages you in a series of challenges designed to increases your own happiness and build more productive habits.  What? The stuff I have been talking about since March? HELLO LAURIE!! HIRE ME!

Let’s talk about what I see right now, this course has come up 2 times in my life. The first time my depression was too awful for me to want to start. Then after going back to school, taking an English class it comes up again. Some of you may not believe things happen for a reason or see the dots that connect to bring you what you need. But if I never signed up for school I wouldn’t have found the podcast, then the wellbeing class. Look for the signs the universe or whatever you believe in is trying to tell you.

If you are interested in taking this class I have added the link, oh yea, IT’S FREE!!! So join me for this journey!!!
