Realizing I need to Stretch

So I have been quite lax when it comes to stretching as of late. I find that because of this my hips are out of wack and are causing such a misalignment in my gait and posture. To remedy this I will be starting my yoga practice again. I’ve neglected my body for to long and now I want to be loose and limber. 

Stretching, foam rolling, lacrosse ball, what do these things have in common? They help to release the connective tissue that is throughout the body. When you are bound and restricted your range of motion gets hindered, your more prone to injury, and impingement’s. That can leave you feeling de-motivated and losing interest in the activities that bring you joy. When you feel pain in your joints, or in movements you were once fluid in there is a huge sense of discouragement. You feel may even feel betrayed by the thing you live in. That can cause so many things to occur. Picking up unhealthy habits because of the loss of control in one’s body are ways of self nourishing. Those habits make the pain double because you are feeding your mentality the lack of story. You cripple yourself because your not limber instead of taking the time and effort to work on it. When you half ass your self care, your inner work, what is the results? Half ass results. 

Then what can be done to shift the body away from pain? Numerous things, you can take a yoga class. Go foam roll for a while (you can even watch tv while you do it if you must) find a massage therapist who understands your needs. Go see a physical therapist because perhaps there is an imbalance. Look up stretches you can do, learn to breath while stretching. See a stretch therapist, take a mobility class, find the thing that is going to resonate with you. You don’t have to go into it with this quest to become the most enlightened person by practicing this mantra during a vinyasa. All you have to do is work on your body. The more you do it the better you will feel. 

The better your body feels, the lighter it feels. Just like if you eat something that isn’t quite healthy for you, you feel heavy even bloated right? So by taking care of your posture, your alignment, getting range of motion, you will be able to work your way back towards doing the things that bring you joy. Just allow yourself to rise instead of fall into self defeat! You are only as strong as your mind allows, don’t you want to make sure you are a badass?
