Today I didn’t think this would be the start of my day. I was going to wake up early and seize the day. But what happened instead was exactly those things. Why was this how my day began? Well probably because a lack of sleep. The tossing and turning from me, and my partner was a lot last night. Then I woke up at 6 am. Why on earth did I wake up this early? Well I have someone checking in and texting me lately about getting after business and his one request was waking up and texting him at 630. I woke up at 6 because I wanted to take charge. Because that’s what successful people do right? They wake up early before anyone else and don’t sleep.
Well for me hell no!!! Sleep is the number one priority in my life. Ask my partner, I take it very seriously and when I get no sleep I turn into a raging hormone driven monster beast. That being said, do people who wake up earlier get more stuff done? I want to say no, not necessarily because we all have an internal clock. Our circadian rhythm, and when that is disrupted it affects our mood, mentality, drive, motivation, how we eat, etc. So I think that successful people are successful because they treat their bodies right, and get enough sleep to do what is necessary throughout the day.
Imagine you are trying to get things on your list done, or you are coming up with ideas, but then you have brain fog, headache from lack of sleep, or just feeling run down. How are you suppose to allow creativity to flow when your natural disposition is lacking hard. You can’t so half ass work is done. Now I am not saying you can’t change your rhythm to be one of an earlier rise, but there are people who are night owls, and those that are early birds. That natural propensity to have more alertness towards a specific time of the day, that tends to dictate your rhythm.
So I say start watching your sleep cycles, how do you feel throughout the day on 6 hours of sleep as opposed to 8. How do you feel going to bed at 10 instead of 1am. Getting to understand your own sleep needs is crucial to how your mentality is. Do you want a moody blues kind of day, or are you gonna wake up ready to fight a fucking lion? The choice is up to you and how you take care of the biggest investment in your life, your sleep. So are you going to half ass it, just for a little green?
