Nappy Nap

When was the last time you took a nap? Those brief little moments of sleep in the middle of a day that replenish your soul. Sometimes there is nothing like a solid nap to just bring you back from the brink. 


 Sleep is so crucial for our ability to function and our lives. But in our society we are taught the hustle is more important then sleep. We can sleep when we are dead. Or does a lack of sleep cause us to get there sooner. That old way of thinking is what keeps us telling our youth that you have to grind all the time. Thats when we sacrifice a piece of ourselves, the piece that allows our brains to function, sleep. 


Speaking of sleep I took a glorious nap today. I had just come back from brunch with one of my best friends. I decided to start reading and found myself drifting off as the words washed by me. I slowly succumb to the call and there I was passed out cuddling my dog. An hour or so later I awoke to find myself exhausted and in the e tank of sleep. As of late my sleep schedule changed from early to now late. I would spend nights trying to sleep early yet slowly drifting further and further into the late night hours. Thats why taking this nap was

everything. At first no, I felt the nap hangover but soon I felt more awake. 


Why is it frowned upon to take care of the most basic needs of our humanity? Why is success associated with a lack of sleep and high stress? If we were to take time for ourselves instead of always being on the run we actually create more momentum. By taking care of sleep, de stressing and finding time for ourselves we work smarter not harder. Its a myth you have to kill yourself for what you want. Don’t let that myth keep you from getting 8 hours of solid sleep. 


I hope you sleep well my friend. I hope you take care of your needs and allow space for this wonderful new habit! It truly is what keeps you young, it allows your body to heal and for your brain to recharge and create!
