Reading is brain food
Day 1 of the 4 week challenge and I am so unbelievably thrilled! I have 5 members ready to seize the day with me in this awesome Facebook group, each having their own goals and steps to take. It’s so exciting to be a part of such an empowering group of people because there are times we all get discouraged. Being able to have a group to support your ventures is a life saving resource. Even today after seeing my new space I felt sheer overwhelm because I now have 4x the current amount of space. Which means I have to figure out how to create the most beautiful space ever and utilize it to it’s full potential. Thank goodness for such a supportive partner, he has been my rock and I am so grateful for him.
One of my daily goals during this challenge was to read 20 pages a day of a book. I decided to purchase 2 just for this very thing. The first book I am diving into is “Rhinoceros Success.” By Scott Alexander. This book is charming and full of wisdom about creating enthusiasm and charging forward into your dream regardless of the obstacles or fear. That is what I am, a rhinoceros. I started out a baby rhino just a few years ago, scared of putting myself out there but still moving forward but now I’m a full grown 3 ton Rhino charging at my dreams and my dreams are big. So I need all the momentum and ferocity I can get!
Every time I read books I feel as if my day takes a huge shift. It opens my mind to something completely new and helps me shift my attention. Reading is a way for us to change our perspectives and to grow. Reading is fuel for your tank. Some of the benefits that reading on the daily has been known to show are:
Improves brain connectivity
Increases Vocabulary and comprehension
aids in sleep readiness
reduces stress
lowers blood pressure and heart rate
FIGHTS DEPRESSION SYMPTOMS
prevents cognitive decline
All these benefits and more are reasons why reading should be high on your priority list. We go to the gym to work out our muscles, well the brain my friend is another muscle that we need to work. Reading helps strengthen your brain as weight lifting helps strengthen your muscles. That is why on this challenge I wanted to make that mind body connection. A few years ago when I was in the best shape of my life I was reading daily and listening to audiobooks on top of going to the gym. When I don’t work that mind then I notice my fitness falters as well. When I work my mind that’s when I am amped up to work my body out too.
So are you looking to get into shape as well? Then I highly recommend you take up reading. Do something that is going to bring you so much enthusiasm that it trickles into your body leaving you wanting to work out so much! Or get a book on something you are interested in. Love pottery? Maybe you get a book about the history of pottery or different patterns. Perhaps you want to learn something about finance or how to manage your own checkbook. Whatever it is allow yourself to engage with it for a minimum of 10 pages a day at the least. If you can do more then by all means tackle that bad boy.
What is one goal you are trying to reach by April? I want you to write it down. Now I want you to find a book on it. It could be on learning to draw a hand or recipes for vegetarian dishes. I want you to find a book on the things you are trying to accomplish by the months end and read 10 pages at least a day. Me I am trying to lose weight and get motivated by April 8th for my trip to Chicago. So the books I’m reading are all about self help motivation and tips to success and positivity. If you don’t have a goal then make your goal to read 10 pages a day. If you are unsure of what you want to accomplish as your goal then make an active pursuit of reading. It may open you up to a possibility you didn’t realize before or help you figure out what you wish to accomplish.
Today was a 8. New keys in hand!!
