Pacing

Can’t get to the top without pacing!

How many times do we wish that we would get to the end of something? Like when you start your journey and you don’t see the end yet because you had just begun. It becomes something you must recommit yourself to everyday. And do you have the fortitude and determination enough to do that? Or do you put your arms up in frustration and want to just give up?

Let’s using pacing in a workout. Depending on the goal of the workout pacing is a must. Knowing when to do this is crucial to anything, even in life. Say you want to start school, and you have a path you want to follow. You know the time limit you are facing, do you know what speed you have to go? You get to chose if you want a shorter or longer time, how much time in between semesters. All of these things will be based on your ability to commit, your endurance, and retention. You have to know yourself when making a choice. It’s a matter of playing to your strengths so that you can make the most progress in the amount of time desired. That is what pacing is. It is applied to food consumption, relationships, what your goals are, etc.

So what kind of pace are you setting for yourself? Are you a speedie Gonzalez? Always rushing through everything? Or do you take your time with it? Or maybe you even have a medium speed. For me my speed is rushing, and it’s because I am a workhorse. My problem is I need to slow down and this quarantine taught me that. I want to absorb everything at warp speed that sometimes I choke on my water when I am drinking. Rushing hasn’t gotten me anywhere. I don’t feel full when I eat until 30 min after because I eat so fast you would think I was a world class eating champion. I want to know everything I can about a person which can come off as intrusive and crossing boundaries. I want to learn everything I can, like when I was going to school. I was doing online math and learned 3 weeks of math in one night and was getting so unbelievably frustrated because the further ahead I got the more I wasn’t getting. Practice. PSHHHH what is that?? It’s either you get it or don’t, Right?! False!!

In order to pace you must practice. Practice, practice, practice. You think that you read something once you will retain that in years ahead? NO, you probably won’t. Don’t let your ego get in the way here. If you don’t use it you lose it. So that is why we study, that is why we practice, that is why we do repetition after repetition until it becomes muscle memory. I didn’t get to where I am as a massage therapist without constantly working as a massage therapist. I worked hard and practiced on numerous bodies. I still am not as good as many others out there.

But knowing your pace is going to allow you to set up a game plan. This means allowing study time, or figuring out how fast to go in a workout or if you need to break up the movements. Pacing is needed for life otherwise you would be tripping over yourself every time. So lets figure out what you want to pace, then get a game plan. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, it can be a rough draft with a slight bit of winging it along the way. But that outline will give you a rough idea of where you want to be at by the end of the goal. It’s up to you to determine the pace you move.

Today I was at a 8. Realized I can’t eat a lot of fat during meals. It leaves me irritable and angry. The more I learn about my own nutrition and body the more I am like wtf have I been doing all along. SHIIITTTT
